The biggest free CV Databases you might not know about.

Ok so these technically aren’t officially CV databases but these are some great places to find large numbers of CV free of charge and very easily and you can be shocked by the sheer numbers of them.

WordPress

I know might seem weird but prepare for more weirdness. Due to the way that WordPress is set up by default all uploads go into a universally named public folder and with WordPress hosting nearly half the internet large numbers of  CVs can be found by doing a simple in URL search such as “inurl:/wp-content/uploads/”. In fact, a very basic search for CVs finds over 20 million CVs which is more than CV-Library (15 million CVs) or Total Jobs (18 million CVs). If you want a more detailed understanding of how this works can I recommend Jan Tegze’s great post on the subject which is where I initially learned how to do it.

GitHub

before anyone gets all high and mighty I’m not saying I’ve discovered GitHub or am even doing anything particularly different to very many, however, I think looking at this in a different way can be quite a valuable experiment. Now 90% of people reading this will already have some decent ways to source on Github for those of you new to it may I suggest checking this video by my sourcing mentor Todd Davis which should give you the basics to work from. However by using a simple string for CVs (doesn’t require filetype searching) across GitHub and some creative minus-ing you can find around 500k developer CVs!

University pages

Great if you ever need someone educated to the masters or PHD level but you will so often find that they are required to have a full CV online at all times with all their publications etc to allow themselves to found to be added to studies or be found by the media for comment on stories related to their area of study. (At least I can’t think of any other reason my so many universities allow their employees to host their CV on the university domains.) And with universities, all using .ac.uk in the UK and .edu in the states doesn’t take much more than a simple inurl and filetype search and you’re in the money CV wise.

So that’s my list let me know any others you know in the comments below I am aiming to be far more sourcing focused and regular in my posts going forward so fingers crossed I’ll be posting again soon
